Best Natural Deodorant

You name it, I’ve tried it. Tom’s, Native, Dr. Squatch, Primally Pure, and on and on. It’s not just natural deodorants that I’ve had a problem with either. Even in the past – the way long ago times – when I used conventional deodorant with all the toxic stuff, nothing seemed to work for me. I stumbled upon the best natural deodorant through a friend of my husband’s who makes natural tallow products from the fat she recovers at her job as a badass butcher. I fell in love with her soap, so I decided to try her tallow deodorant too. I’m stoked to say that I’ve finally found the best natural deodorant!

What Makes Fat Chap Co. Deodorant the Best?

Pits, say hello to Fat Chap Co. and never suffer again. So, what makes Fat Chap Co. Deodorant the best you ask? Oh, let me count the ways…

Long Lasting

I’ve been wearing Fat Chap Co. Deodorant for months now, and it always keeps my pits smelling fresh for about 24 hours.

Resists Heat

I live in the Devil’s asshole, AKA Texas, and am happy to report that Fat Chap Co. Deodorant resists heat like no other deodorant I’ve ever tried!

Resists Sweat

I’m a pretty active person who averages about 20 to 30 minutes of exercise every day. Fat Chap Co. makes the best natural deodorant that performs well by resisting sweat. You know, like deodorants are supposed to.

Tastes Good - I Mean - Smells Good!

Non-Toxic

Even the “natural” deodorant brands I’ve tried, still end up having a long list of ingredients that I’m weary of.

In contrast, Fat Chap Co. only uses a few ingredients: “Grass-fed tallow, organic coconut oil, organic beeswax, baking soda, non-nano zinc oxide, arrow root powder, and essential oil. That’s it!”

Nourishes the Skin

Fat Chap Co. Deodorant nourishes the skin because of the purity of the ingredients, but also because of the wonder that is tallow.

In the words of Fat Chap Co., “Tallow is a type of rendered fat that comes from beef or mutton (lamb). It has been used for centuries as a skincare ingredient due to its moisturizing and nourishing properties. Tallow contains a high concentration of fatty acids, which are essential for maintaining healthy skin. It is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are all beneficial for skin health.”

Uses Fat That Would Have Been Wasted

When Ellen started working as a butcher, it pained her to see that suet and fat account for about 30% of the waste in rendering buckets at the Meating Place. A lot of that fat ended up in the landfill until she started making use of it.

Ellen is a true whole-animal butcher. Through her company, Fat Chap Co., she utilizes what was once considered waste and transforms it into nourishing and fragrant skin care products like tallow soap, tallow balm, and tallow deodorant.

Ellen says, “Utilizing the whole animal in butchery is important for reducing waste, maximizing value, supporting sustainable practices, and preserving traditional skills.”

Eco-Friendly Packaging

The cardboard tubes that Ellen uses are a huge step up from the offensive plastic containers that other deodorants use. Fat Chap Co. deodorant doesn’t dry out in the tubes like a different brand I found at HEB one time.

And, Ellen even packages her products in paper instead of styro-foam or plastic bubble wrap! Hooray! She even uses paper tape!

Small Woman-Owned Business

According to Statista.com, women accounted for only 25.4% of butchers in the United States in 2022. I love to see women excelling in male-dominated careers, as a woman who has worked in a few myself.

Ellen sources the fat for her tallow products from the butcher shop she works at called The Meating Place. Out of the 40 butchers that work there, 6 of them are female.

Check out The Meating Place Instagram page to meat, I mean meet, the other female butchers!
