Do you love cheese? Do you love to try new things? Can you imagine a cheese that tastes like caramel? Get ready to drool, because today you will discover one of the world’s greatest treasures… Ski Queen brown cheese!
What is Ski Queen Brown Cheese?
Tine Norwegian Cheese
Today you will learn about Tine brand Ski Queen brown cheese, Classic Edition, which is probably the easiest type of brunost that you will be able to find in the United States.
According to the Food Historian, “‘Brunost’ is literally Norwegian for ‘brown cheese.'” Ski Queen Brown cheese Classic version is made with a blend of cow and goat milk.
Tine cheese is made with milk from animals not treated with antibiotics or growth hormones. In Norway, antibiotics aren’t needed because most of the country’s farm animals are healthy from living a free-range lifestyle. In addition, growth hormones are banned entirely.
What Does Ski Queen Brown Cheese Taste Like?
Ski Queen cheese tastes like an overdue vacation in a luxury cabin located at the peak of a gorgeous mountain covered in fluffy snow.
It tastes like a generous massage by the softly crackling fireplace. That’s the spot.
It tastes… like heaven.
My husband is the one who introduced me to the magical little block of creamy goodness.
He didn’t have to sell me on it, because I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t like, (except brie). He said, “I know you’re a cheese lover, but this is different. It doesn’t really taste like cheese. It tastes more like caramel but not as sweet.”
“Sign me up. Put it in my mouth already,” I said.
I couldn’t wait to try it.
I was immediately hooked. Ski Queen cheese is silky smooth, creamy, and addictive. And, yes, it tastes a lot like caramel, but more rich and less sweet.
Ski Queen Brown Cheese History
Anne Hov once visited a neighbor’s farm where she was introduced to brown cheese made from the whey of cow’s milk. It was so delicious and unique that it inspired her to try her hand at the recipe.
However, Anne made a minor adjustment; she added cream. (Good girl!) Anne began selling her cheese at the local market, and the demand quickly grew. The people of Norway couldn’t get enough.
One of the best ways to try Ski Queen brown cheese for the first time is to eat it in slices with organic pink lady apples dusted with organic cinnamon.
Other apple types will do, but pink lady apples are, in my opinion, the best-tasting apples in the world and their candy-like flavor compliments the caramel taste of Ski Queen cheese quite well.
Ski Queen with Cinnamon Raisin Bagel, Bacon, and Pears
I was feeling creative recently and decided to try Ski Queen cheese toasted on a cinnamon raisin bagel with bacon.
WOW!
You’ve got to try this flavor combo. I added sliced bell pepper and pears dusted with cinnamon since those go great with Ski Queen as well.
I used turkey bacon this time but regular pork bacon would taste great too. I read online that “red juice” is popular in Norway, so I paired this meal with award-winning Biota brand beet juice mixed with my favorite kombucha soda drink.

How to Cut Ski Queen Cheese
For the best experience, pull the cheese out of the refrigerator and allow it to adjust to room temperature before cutting and eating it.
You can use any sharp knife to cut Ski Queen cheese. However, fancy cheese deserves a fancy slicer, don’t you think? With the right slicer, you can achieve those special, paper-thin cuts that curl up and melt in your mouth!
