Sardine Sandwich Recipe

In a previous post, I talked about how sardines are anti-aging. However, if you’ve never tried sardines before, you may think they sound gross. You may be wondering, “How can I make sardines taste good?” Well, I’ve got great news, because this sardine sandwich recipe is delicious!

Prepare to be impressed by the flavor and simplicity of this recipe.

Seriously, it’s hardly a recipe at all!

Best Sardines Brand for the Best Sardine Sandwich

If you want to make the best sardine sandwich, you’ll need the best sardine brand!

I recommend Wild Planet Sardines which can be found on Amazon or the Wild Planet website.

(Those were NOT affiliate links.)

I linked to the bulk box of sardines on Amazon, because that is the only way I could find the boneless and skinless fish packed in water. Other options of the same brand can be bought one can at a time!

Sardine Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients

  • Wild Planet Sardines (1 can)
  • Mayonnaise (2 tbsp, more or less, depending on your preference)
  • Pepper (optional)
  • Tillamook cheddar cheese
  • Sourdough bread with no nitrates or nitrites
  • Vegetables of choice (optional)

How to Make a Sardine Sandwich

  1. Open the can of sardines and drain the water, using the lid as a strainer.
  2. Dump the sardines in a bowl.
  3. Add mayonnaise and stir the sardines. Do NOT add salt.
  4. Add a dash of pepper if you like.
  5. Mix the sardines and mayonnaise until the ingredients are incorporated.
  6. If you don’t like toasted sandwiches, just add the mixture to the bread with sliced cheese and vegetables of choice and you’re done!
  7. If you do like toasted sandwiches, set 2 pieces of bread on a stainless steel or glass baking sheet and spread equal amounts of the fish mix onto each piece of bread.
  8. Add slices of cheese to one side of the sandwich.
  9. Leave the sandwich “open” and pop it in the oven at 400 degrees for about 5 minutes, or until toasted to perfection.
  10. Add vegetables of choice and you’re done!

Enjoy!
