How To Stop A Tickly Cough

Don’t you hate it? That itchy, tickly, incessant coughing? Like, why? Why does your throat itch? Why does coughing not help? You need fast relief before your stomach muscles collapse! I know the feeling. That’s why I’m sharing this simple yet effective trick to stop a tickly cough instantly.

How to Stop a Tickly Cough Instantly

Most of the time I like to ease into the introduction of posts, but we don’t have time for that today. You need fast relief!

Go to your kitchen right now and eat about 1/4 of a spoonful of honey. Swallow it slowly, and let it rest on the back of your tongue and throat for as long as possible.

If your throat is still tickly, eat another 1/4 of a spoonful of honey. Keep doing this until the tickly cough has subsided.

This method works better than anything I’ve ever tried.

How to Eat Honey on the Go

If you suspect that your tickly cough will come back to haunt you when you are on the go, pack a little jar and spoon in your car, bag, or purse. It may seem like a lot to carry around but it’s worth it. You will thank yourself for thinking ahead.

However, if your purse isn’t the size of a small house like mine, and you want more practical ways to eat honey on the go, you can try the ways listed below. Just remember, plain honey, when taken by itself, will always be the most effective way to cure a tickly cough!

  • Tea with honey
  • Natural cough drops with honey

How Honey Soothes a Cough

According to Cara Rosenbloom in an article on Good RX Health, “Studies show that a tsp of honey may be an effective remedy to limit coughs. The thick texture of honey may help lower the urge to cough, by coating and soothing the throat. It also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.”

In addition, Rosenbloom tells us that honey contains antioxidants that help decrease inflammation of the throat as well as reduce mucus production.

Honey Warnings

In general, honey is safe for everyone except for babies under one-year-old.

People with diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome should check with their doctor before taking honey as a cough suppressant as well.
