Tea Tree Oil Salve
According to the National Library of Medicine, tea tree oil “has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against a wide range of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, including yeasts and dermatophytes.”
In case you are wondering, “Dermatophytes are a unique group of fungi that infect keratinous tissue and are able to invade the hair, skin, and nails of a living host,” according toScience Direct.
That is why this salve recipe does an excellent job of treating ringworm, eczema, cold sores, rashes, acne, and pretty much all other skin issues.
Another National Library of Medicine article reports that peppermint oil has been used since ancient times to combat inflammation and bacteria. The site also says that peppermint essential oil is loaded with antioxidants that are great for overall skin health as well.
Antioxidants in peppermint oil are anti-aging, but if you were to apply pure peppermint to your skin, it would be too strong and cause irritation. This salve recipe provides the perfect way to gently deliver the benefits of peppermint to your skin.
According to that same article listed above, lemon essential oil has also been used for centuries to fight bacteria and inflammation. Lemon is pretty acidic, so you may be wondering how to use lemon oil on your face without causing irritation. Just like in the case of peppermint oil, the homemade salve recipe is a perfectly gentle delivery system for lemon essential oil, because it is diluted with coconut oil. With this salve, you get all of the benefits of lemon oil without the harshness of its acidic nature.
So far, we have only looked at very powerful, very concentrated essential oils. But, we need carrier oil to dilute the essential oils. Without carrier oil, your salve would be way too strong!
The best carrier oil for dry skin is coconut oil, because, according to professional dermatologists in this Healthline article, coconut oil can reduce itchiness, inflammation, eczema, dermatitis, and xerosis.Coconut oil also prevents water loss, contains fatty acids, and improves elasticity, which are things that make your skin look younger!
Benefits of Beeswax on Skin
The benefits of beeswax on skin are numerous. Beeswax soothes and moisturizes skin and helps provide elasticity, making you look younger. When you apply this homemade salve to your skin, the beeswax is what locks in all of the moisture from the incredible essential oils. It provides a protective layer that repairs damaged skin and prevents further damage from dryness and cold.
Pyrex glass measuring cup (Optional). If you are confident at pouring your salve directly from a steel pot into your jars, you can skip the Pyrex. However, if you want less mess, Pyrex measuring cups usually have an easy-pour lip.
Small to medium-sized glass jars to pour the finished salve into. You can reuse small food jars or click the picture below to see some cute glass jars with bamboo lids!

How To Make Healing Salve
Clean your stove top and counter space in your kitchen.
Gather all of the ingredients and utensils.
If you are using the Pyrex: pour enough water into the steel pot until it is about 1/4 full. Set towels in the water and set the Pyrex on top of the towels. Heat the water on medium-low heat.
If you are not using Pyrex, you will be making the salve in the pot with NO WATER!!! Simply heat up the pot on medium-low heat.
Add half of the 14-ounce jar of coconut oil and let it melt. This is about 3/4 of a cup.
Add 8 tbsp beeswax and use a fork to stir it into the coconut oil until it has melted.
Reduce heat to low.
Add 1 tbsp tea tree oil.
Add 1 tbsp peppermint oil.
Add 1 tbsp lemon oil.
Stir the mixture with a fork and test it for desired consistency by dripping some of the melted salve onto a clean plate. Let it dry and cool completely, and then test the salve on your lips or skin. If it is the desired consistency, you are ready to pour it into the jars. If you prefer a thicker salve, add more beeswax. For a thinner salve, add more coconut oil.
Set your jars on the plate and carefully pour the melted salve into the jars. (The purpose of the plate is to collect any spills.)
Let your salve cool entirely before putting the lids on them. This may take about 30 minutes to an hour.
Clean up the outside of the jars with towels, and enjoy your salve!
