Halloween may be a time for scares, and nothing is more scary than environmental destruction, but that’s scary in a bad way. Celebrate the right way this year with an eco-friendly Halloween!
Don't Buy More - Buy Better
Too many Halloween decorations are made from cheap plastic and that are as ugly as they are disposable. Consumers subconsciously know that these decorations are ugly, which is why they buy more each year because the purchases feel cheap and therefore unsatisfactory. Producers couldn’t care less, because they are making money each year on cheap plastic crap that is easily mass-produced.
If a decoration breaks while packing or unpacking it from the attic, it’s no big deal. Just throw it in the trash, head to the store, and buy more cheap plastic crap.
Don't Decorate With Cheap Plastic Crap
Unfortunately, it IS a big deal. Type “cheap plastic crap,” in a Google search and see what pops up. I found this excellent website called, SciMoms, and this is what they had to say about cheap plastic crap.
“A recent study estimates that we’ve created 8300 million tons of plastic since its manufacturing came into existence. Sadly, only 9% of this has been recycled, while 79% of it has ended up in landfills or has been dumped in the natural environment. None of these materials are biodegradable, leading to contamination of waters and soils, and a negative impact on marine life. Additionally, making plastics requires petroleum and a lot of energy, so the carbon footprint of these materials is significant.”

I take the books apart and/or cut up the sample fabrics so they can be used in the bags and then I use other materials to complete the bags.”
